Oral Premedication

A simple way of reducing anxiety before dental treatment is to prescribe a patient Temazepam or Valium tablets. It is most usually prescribed the night before to aid sleep and then one hour before treatment.

This option can be administered by most dentists in the UK as no additional training or monitoring is required.

It is an extremely safe method of reducing anxiety but some precautions still need to be taken. Driving is not advised that day when you are under the influence, it is a good idea to have someone responsible bring you and take you home.

Premedication can be given before any of the other sedation techniques, although the dentist needs to know!
